Led by Maestro Hervé Niquet and funded by the BNP Paribas Foundation since 2005, Le Concert Spirituel, the French music ensemble internationally renowned for its authoritative interpretations of Baroque music on period instruments, made its first ever appearance in China at the Shanghai Concert Hall on June 21, 2010. The concert was part of the Festival Croisements 2010, which ended with the “Fête de la Musique” on June 20 and 21, organized by the French Embassy and Consulate General in Shanghai.
This concert, organized by the Shanghai Concert Hall and solely sponsored by BNP Paribas and its Foundation, offered local music lovers a rare chance to hear some of the greatest works of the Baroque era, played by 80 musicians on period instruments such as the snake, contrabassoons, natural horns and trumpets.
Celebrating BNP Paribas’ 150th anniversary in China, Mr François Cristofari, Chief Executive Officer of BNP Paribas (China) Limited, said, “We are honored to be able to introduce such a marvelous ensemble to audiences in Shanghai. BNP Paribas believes in giving back to society and has always been committed to supporting projects that enrich the cultural life of the people in the countries in which we operate.”
A cocktail reception was held prior to the concert for key clients, local and French government officials, ambassadors and consular officials.
In addition, as part of our corporate social responsibility initiatives, we invited 40 under-privileged students to attend the rehearsal session and offered 60 students from local music school the opportunity to enjoy the concert.
