BNP Paribas North & East Asia

In North & East Asia, BNP Paribas is organized around the dynamic regional hub of Hong Kong, with its business primarily comprising two core areas:

Corporate and Investment Banking
Corporate and Investment Banking activities are balanced between advisory and capital markets (Corporate Finance, Equities, Fixed Income, Equities and Derivatives), and specialized financing (Structured Finance, Export and Commodities, Project Finance).

The client coverage organization manages the bank's client portfolio along with Financial Institutions, Large Corporates and a team of Senior Bankers who maintain close relationships with individual clients.

Asset Management and Services
This is the asset-gathering arm of the Group which includes Private Banking and BNP Paribas Investment Partners. Serving high net-worth individuals, BNP Paribas Private Bank offers personalized portfolio engineering and diversification advice, tailored to the specific needs of each client & backed by a range of carefully selected high-performance, innovative products. The following awards from Asiamoney's Private Banking Poll in 2007 bear testament to the Bank's industry excellence and achievements in the market:

BNP Paribas Wealth Management Taiwan launched the opening of its Kaohsiung-based team in June 2007 as its second flagship unit in Taiwan, in addition to its Taipei office.

In October 2006, BNP Paribas Private Banking was officially launched in China.

The BNP Paribas Investment Partners team, organized by client category, provides client-specific offers and personalized local services. With total assets under management at EUR 360 billion (June 30, 2007), the Bank is now building its presence in mainland China where an asset banking license was obtained in 2003.

Strategic Investment & Local Incorporation In China
In October 2005, BNP Paribas signed an agreement to buy 19.2 per cent of Bank of Nanjing (BON). The partnership with BON includes a range of business activities, building on BON's excellent knowledge and distribution strength of the local market, and BNP Paribas' product skills in areas including retail banking, credit cards, wealth management and corporate banking. As at 31 December 2006, BON was one of China's biggest commercial banks located in Jiangsu province, with the number of branches totalling 60 and employing more than 1,500 people. As of July 2007, BNP Paribas owns a 12.6 per cent stake in BON.

In April 2007, BNP Paribas submitted its application to the China Banking Regulatory Commission for converting the branches of BNP Paribas in Beijing, Tianjin and Guangzhou into branches of its existing local subsidiary, BNP Paribas (China) Limited. Subject to regulatory approval, this conversion project will give BNP Paribas the flexibility to conduct the full range of banking business with all classes of customers in China. After the conversion, BNP Paribas (China) Limited will be headquartered in Shanghai. Meanwhile, the existing BNP Paribas Shanghai Branch will be retained as a foreign currency wholesale branch of BNP Paribas S.A.
