“Forbes” magazine has published its list of the world’s 2000 largest public companies in 2006 according to sales, profits, assets, and market value. BNP Paribas ranks 17th all categories combined (it was 16th in 2005 and 18th in 2004). As such, it is France’s second-largest corporation, behind Total (15th) but ahead of Axa (28th).
In the banking sector, BNP Paribas is Number 6 behind three US banks (Citigroup, Bank of America, and JP Morgan Chase) and two from the UK (HSBC Group and Royal Bank of Scotland). Moreover, it continues to be the largest euro zone bank, ahead of Banco Santander (7th), ABN-Amro Holding (12th), and Société Générale (13th). As in 2005, the world’s three largest corporations continue to be Citigroup, General Electric, and American International Group.
